With the impending mask policy changes that are about to take place in New Jersey school districts, do you think it will affect teaching strategies within the classroom? Do you think that it will increase or decrease student participation and engagement in class? Why do you feel this way? Do you think that teachers will welcome a new policy that now allows the wearing of masks to be optional? Do you think that you will be doing some "virtual work" in your class even though there is no requirement to do so? Explain the reasoning behind your answer.
I don't think not wearing a mask in class would affect teaching strategies within the classroom. If we were able to attend classes, participate, and be engaged while wearing masks, I don't see why that would change if we don't. I actually think it would increase student participation and engagement in class since now we're going to be able to see each other faces and even the expressions we make with our face. We are going to be able to hear better and even sound better without the mask.
ReplyDeleteTeacher will probably welcome a policy of optional mask, since many students now might not feel comfortable being around many people without wearing a mask and that should be respected. I wouldn't be doing virtual work in my class just because of this reason, since we are able to go places that are packed and not having to worry about wearing mask. I don't really see a problem with not wearing masks since now the policy is changing.

I think it will be a good thing for teaching, especially with music. If students want to wear it optionally that should be fine. I could have them wear a modified mask to play. Masks are not a huge problem for me so things can be worked around.

I do believe masks have a large amount of power within the classroom. When you get children are learning how to pronounce words, they will try to mimic their educators mouth movements. Masks, prevent these students from seeing how to properly pronounce words and can possibly lead to problems with speech in the future. However, I feel that after almost 3 years of Covid, wearing masks has provided a form of comfortability to students. Some may feel more confident to speak and discuss their findings due to this comfortability. I feel like virtual learning is drastically different from being in the classroom. If I am not required to do virtual learning, then I will most likely not do virtual learning. I feel as if students are most distracted and may learn less and participate less in the classroom, but they may perform better on tests due to external resources.
